A consumer proposal in Manitoba is an alternative to bankruptcy

While not everyone is familiar with it, a consumer proposal can be a powerful debt-relief option that may significantly reduce or even eliminate what you owe. It must be filed through a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT), like our team.

What is a consumer proposal?

A Legally Backed Debt Settlement Solution

A consumer proposal is a formal, legally recognized process that allows you to repay a portion of your unsecured debts, based on what you can realistically afford. Administered by a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT), it provides a valuable alternative to bankruptcy, helping you protect your assets while stopping collection actions. Learn how a consumer proposal can reduce your debt and provide financial relief.

Getting started

How It Works in Manitoba

Farber’s team of experienced Licensed Insolvency Trustees will guide you through every step of the process, creating a debt repayment plan specifically tailored to your financial situation. Once filed, the proposal becomes legally binding, offering you immediate protection and a clear path to a debt-free future.

Here’s how we help you:

  • Filing your proposal with the federal government
  • Negotiating with creditors on your behalf
  • Setting up one simplified monthly payment
  • Stopping creditor calls, wage garnishments, and other collection actions

Benefits of a Consumer Proposal in Manitoba

Avoid Bankruptcy

A consumer proposal is a less disruptive, more manageable alternative to bankruptcy. It helps reduce your debt while protecting your financial future.

Keep Your Assets

Most people keep important assets like their home, vehicle, and RRSPs when they file a consumer proposal.

One Affordable Monthly Payment

We’ll consolidate your debts into one fixed monthly payment — with no added interest — based on what you can reasonably afford.

Legal Protection

Once your proposal is filed, all collection calls, wage garnishments, and legal actions will stop.

The Consumer Proposal Process with Farber

Book a confidential, no-obligation consultation with a Licensed Insolvency Trustee in Manitoba. We’ll assess your situation and explain your options clearly.
We’ll develop a custom repayment plan that reflects your financial reality and meets your creditors' expectations.
Your proposal is submitted to the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada. Creditors have 45 days to vote. If the majority (by dollar value) approve, the agreement becomes legally binding on all.
Once your proposal is approved, you’ll begin making affordable monthly payments. You’ll also complete two mandatory financial counselling sessions to help you build healthy money habits. When the proposal is finished, any remaining eligible debt is legally forgiven — giving you a clear financial reset.

5 stars

Never knew Farber existed until a couple of weeks ago. I'm still surprised that more Canadians don't know about this wonderful lifetime opportunity! I gladly started to speak to friends and colleagues who are in debt about Farber Debt Solutions. It felt great to help a friend with this information, especially when he told me how satisfied he was about feeling debt free. On top of that, I was glad to see that there is a counselling program that gives support, education and guidance on managing debt. Thank you so much and I encourage anyone who is reading this review to inform a friend who is not aware that there is real help. Thank you again for freeing my years of burden.

Five whole years later and I still have the same feelings: Every single individual that I worked with at Farber, from my initial intake to 5 years later has been an excellent example of true customer support. From answering questions repeatedly to guiding me confidently, everyone here at Farber made the worst-feeling situation feel like something I could get through. The folks at Farber really ‘Get it’ and this is so much more than just a legal department: These are people who will help you as much as you are willing to help yourself. Special thanks to: Pamela, Kim, Elisha, Taghreed, Beth, Lambert and Greg. You are all amazing!
